KUALA TERENGGANU: Seven men were roughed up during polling day at SK Ladang here after supporters of a political party accused the group of being “phantom voters” from Bangladesh.
Police said three of them were held captive until the end of the polling period and were not able to cast their votes.
The bullied group, of Indian ethnicity and locals, had studied at a university here previously and were registered voters in Kuala Terengganu.
They were said to have come from other states to cast their ballots.
The party supporters, however, were not convinced they were Malaysians and acted roughly on the seven men.
One of the supporters allegedly held a parang to one of the victims’ neck.
Three of the voters, however, were said to have come to the wrong place at SK Ladang to vote when they were supposed to vote at SK Sultan Sulaiman 2.
“The party supporters became suspicious and acted violently against the three men,” said Terengganu police chief Datuk Jamshah Mustapayesterday.
“The three eventually were not able to cast their votes as they were held captive by the supporters until polling time was over,” added Jamshah.
He said the police had yet to identify the alleged bullies.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old self-employed man from Manir, near here, was sentenced to a day’s jail and fined RM3,000 for hurting two men who were also mistaken as phantom voters.
The victims, both aged 26, were on their way home from voting in Teluk Pasu when several supporters stopped them and brought them to their tent.
The accused punched the two men while questioning the victims at the tent.
Since the dissolution of the last parliament, 53 election-related problems have been reported and police have made charges in seven cases.
Jamshah said overall, the police were pleased that the election period had gone smoothly without major problems.
We always look back with such a nostalgic memories of our school, Sultan Sulaiman Secondary School (SSSS or SS, as we always refer). Thus, this blog was created to bring back those memories.
Besides writing as much as I could for this Sulaimanian blog (other than maintaining 10 other blogs) there is always a limit to it. Thus, I make use of my school magazine collection(starting from 1958 until as recent as 2009 – of course with some missing ones in between), scan some of the relevant pages and post it here.
To cater such a wide range of Sulaimanian alumni, I will have to switch between the old magazines, not so old and the more recent ones – so that I could maintain to attract all the visitors (Sulaimanians) to this blog.
We have so many happenings around/related to our school and the alumnus. But nothing get fed and updated here if nobody send me those news/articles. Partly because of not being in KT could have distanced me from news of recent school activities.
We have so many big names from our school making headlines in the newspaper almost everyday but still many would not notice as we usually do not mention about SS in the story. Of course everybody knows and read about our schoolmate Tuanku Sultan who had just finished his term as the 13th YDPA. We are all proud to be associated with his former school. And of course his former batch mate are even more proud of having such association – with so many functions organised during his tenure as YDPA.
In an effort to gather as much info that could connect Sulaimanians all over I compiled a non-exhaustive list of blogs/facebook accounts related to our school and listed them on the sidebar – BLOGROLL (go and click the one that could be related to you):

I also created a FB account (which I called it as “Unofficial” – 1st on the list above). With modest beginning a few months ago, it has now 3000+ friends from all ages. Please like if you want updates of this blog notified.
Keep me motivated by your visits and comments. I thank you all.

This video was taken from where the Bedil is being shot on top of Bukit Pak Apil in September 2010. It was taken during one of the iftar for Puasa Enam days.
Listen to the azan (from the radio) just before the shot. Actually the guy who pushed the button triggering the bedil also listen to Terengganu fm, aired from the other peak of Bukit Pak Apil, to know the time.

Hiasan lampu amat mencukupi.
Arwah bersama beberapa ahli jemaah lain sedang memadamkan lampu dan kipas rebah terduduk lalu menghembuskan nafas terakhirnya sebaik selesai solat subuh.
Walaupun terdapat beberapa masjid berdekatan dengannya, seperti Masjid Ladang dan Masjid Batu Buruk, diharap ianya dapat menjadi satu lagi pusat penyebaran agama Islam serta menzahirkan syiarnya.

Sports stadium roof collapses in the Netherlands

People look at the the collapsed stadium in Enschede, Netherlands, Thursday, July 7, 2011. A section of a Dutch football stadium collapsed during off-season construction work Thursday, trapping people underneath, police said. No match was being played at the FC Twente stadium at the time of the collapse and those trapped were believed to be workers. Local newspaper De Twentsche Courant, citing unnamed workers at the stadium, reported on its website that 12 people were injured in the accident. (AP Photo/Martin Meissner)
ENSCHEDE, Netherlands (AP) — A large section of the roof of a soccer stadium collapsed during off-season construction work Thursday, killing one person and leaving 10 hospitalized.
A total of 14 people were injured when the roof at the southern end of the FC Twente stadium collapsed around midday. Three people were treated at the scene, said Peter den Oudsten, mayor of the Dutch town of Enschede where the stadium is located.
He said sniffer dogs and cameras were being used to check if anybody else was still trapped under the tangle of girders and red roof panels — the color of FC Twente’s shirts — behind the goal at the southern end of the Grolsch Veste stadium.
The cause of the collapse was not immediately known.

The soccer stadium of FC Twente Enschede is seen after a part of the newly constructed roof collapsed in Enschede July 7, 2011. Part of the Dutch soccer stadium under renovation collapsed on Thursday, trapping and injuring an unknown number of people under the rubble. The incident was probably related to construction work at the stadium, police said. REUTERS/Eric Brinkhorst
FC Twente director Jan van Halst said the club “is terribly upset. Our sympathy goes to the victims.”
He appealed to supporters of the team not to visit the stadium whileemergency services were still at work.
