Buku Manji dimulakan dengan perbahasannya tentang tuhan. Dalam halaman 9 Manji mendakwa kalimah Allah adalah terjemahan bahasa Arab bermaksud Tuhan. Ini bererti kalimah Allah bukanlah kata nama khas yang merujuk kepada tuhan tertentu tetapi mana-mana perkara yang dijadikan tuhan akan diterjemahkan Allah dalam bahasa Arab. Itu adalah rumusan mudah dalam memahami pendirian Manji tentang Allah. Kemudian Manji mengakui bahawa dia sedar pemahamannya tentang tuhan bukanlah seperti yang difahami oleh ramai orang.  Bermakna Manji sendiri akur bahawa dalam perkara yang paling asas dalam agama Islam iaitu isu ketuhanan, dia sendiri masih kabur dan tidak memiliki titik temu dengan majoriti umat Islam yang lain. Justeru, bagaimanakah Manji mampu melakukan perubahan atau reformasi pada perkara-perkara yang lain. Sekurang-kurangnya Manji perlu meletakkan asas yang sama antara semua umat Islam sebelum berpindah kepada perkara yang lain.

Dalam hal ini, Manji perlu tahu bahawa umat Islam dengan penuh keimanan mengatakan Allah adalah kata nama khas yang hanya merujuk kepada Tuhan Yang Maha Esa. Jika dikatakan bahawa kalimah Allah adalah terjemahan Arab bermaksud Tuhan, ini bermakna tuhan-tuhan dalam agama lain juga akan dirujuk sebagai Allah. Hal ini secara tidak langsung mengakui bahawa agama-agama lain itu juga menyembah tuhan yang sama sebagaimana yang disembah oleh umat Islam. Sedangkan Allah SWT menolak penyembahan yang dilakukan itu sebagai penyembahan yang merujuk kepada zat-Nya. Ketika surah al-Ikhlas diturunkan, ia membicarakan soal konflik tentang siapakah sebenarnya Allah yang dituturkan oleh agama-agama lain itu. Adakah ia tepat dan benar dengan konsep “Allah” sebagaimana yang digelar dan dipanggil oleh mereka? Imam Ibn Kathir menukilkan kata-kata ‘Ikrimah tentang perihal turunnya ayat ini.

Berkata ‘Ikrimah: “Ketika orang Yahudi mengatakan: Kami menyembah ‘Uzair anak Allah. Orang Nasrani mengatakan: Kami menyembah al-Masih anak Allah. Majusi pula mengatakan: Kami menyembah matahari dan bulan. Orang musyrikin pula mengatakan: Kami menyembah berhala. Lalu Allah SWT menurunkan ke atas Rasulullah SAW surah al-Ikhlas yang bermaksud: Katakanlah wahai Muhammad bahawa Allah itu Esa, Allah itu tempat bergantung segala makhluk-Nya, Allah itu tidak beranak dan tidak diperanakkan dan Allah itu tiada bagi-Nya sekutu”. (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, j.4, hal. 571)

Manji juga mengatakan bahawa Allah itu adalah Tuhan yang dikongsi dengan semua orang. Istilah seperti ini tidak pernah digunapakai dalam aqidah Islam. Jika kita mengiktiraf bahawa kita berkongsi tuhan dengan agama lain, ini bermakna kita juga mengiktiraf keabsahan agama lain, sedangkan Allah SWT sendiri menafikan agama-agama lain dan bentuk penyembahan yang mereka lakukan. Apabila dalam surah al-Ikhlas, Allah SWT menegaskan sifat-sifat-Nya Yang Esa, tidak beranak dan tidak diperanakkan, ini bermakna mereka yang menyembah tuhan yang berbilang-bilang dengan dakwaan bahawa Allah itu tiga dalam satu atau memiliki anak maka itu bukanlah Allah SWT. Bahkan Allah SWT menggelarkan tuhan yang disangkakan tuhan oleh manusia itu sebagai taghut. Firman Allah SWT dalam surah al-Nahl ayat 36:

“Dan sesungguhnya Kami telah mengutus dalam kalangan tiap-tiap umat seorang Rasul (dengan memerintahkannya menyeru mereka): Hendaklah kamu menyembah Allah dan jauhilah taghut, maka di antara mereka (yang menerima seruan Rasul itu), ada yang diberi hidayah petunjuk oIeh Allah dan ada pula yang berhak ditimpa kesesatan, oleh itu mengembaralah kamu di bumi, kemudian lihatlah bagaimana buruknya kesudahan umat-umat yang mendustakan Rasul-rasul-Nya”.

Imam al-Tabari mengatakan taghut itu ialah setiap perbuatan melampaui batas ke atas Allah, seperti menyembah kepada selain-Nya sama ada secara paksa daripada yang disembah atau secara taat daripada orang yang menyembahnya, tanpa mengira yang disembah itu adalah manusia atau syaitan atau berhala atau patung atau apa sahaja. (Tafsir al-Tabari, j. 3, hal. 19)

Berdasarkan ayat ini dan beberapa ayat lain yang menafikan penyembahan kepada taghut, bermakna Allah SWT tidak mengiktiraf peribadatan agama lain yang menyembah kepada taghut iaitu tuhan-tuhan selain Allah SWT. Oleh itu, bagaimana boleh dikatakan bahawa kita berkongsi Allah dengan agama-agama lain sedangkan Allah SWT sendiri tidak mengiktiraf penyembahan mereka.

Manji seterusnya mendakwa Allah adalah Tuhan cinta dan kebebasan. Dia mendakwa Tuhan itu begitu mencintainya dan memberinya kebebasan untuk membuat pilihan. Benar, secara kawni atau alaminya, semua manusia tanpa mengira agama diciptakan oleh Allah SWT, malah sekalian alam ini pun memang diciptakan oleh Allah SWT. Namun semata-mata kerana alasan penciptaan, ia tidak boleh mengesahkan bahawa semua makhluk dicintai dan diberikan kebebasan mutlak oleh Allah SWT. Jika itu telahan anda bermakna ia hanyalah khayalan dan angan-angan semata-mata. Sebagaimana anda percaya Allah SWT memiliki hak mutlak untuk menciptakan apa pun dan sesiapa pun yang dikehendakinya, anda jangan lupa bahawa Dia juga berhak untuk mencintai dan memurkai sesiapa yang diingininya. Dia juga berhak untuk memberi kebebasan dan sekatan pada perkara yang dikehendakinya.

Bagi umat Islam kenyataan di atas tidaklah salah. Tetapi ayat di atas sebenarnya dipetik dari sepotong ayat dari Al-Kitab (Bible) dengan menggantikan perkataan God dengan Allah sepertimana yang dikehendaki oleh sesetengah pihak dari pelbagai denominasi Kristian yang melambak.

Malah banyak lagi yang boleh kita lihat, apabila kita menggantikan perkataan God dengan kalimah Allah, begitulah yang kemukakan oleh pendakwah yang terkenal, Saudara Shah Kirit (profil dari blognya) dalam satu temubual dan kiriman emel beliau baru-baru ini.

Jesus said: “Allah is greater than I” (John 14:28),

Jesus said the most important commandment is “‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our Allah, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your Allah with all your …heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:29-30)

“I am Allah, and there is no other; I am Allah, and there is none like me” (Isaiah 46:9),

‘One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to Allah.’ (Luke 6:12),

“Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by Allah to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which Allah did among you through him, as you yourselves know.” (Acts 2:22),

“I am the LORD your Allah, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:2-3; Deuteronomy 5:6-7),

Jesus prayed to Allah:

‘Going a little farther, he (Jesus) fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “Allah, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” (Matthew 26:39),

‘Jesus prayed to Allah for himself and said, “…Now this is eternal life; that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent…” ‘ (John 17:3).

Now I wonder what was the actual teachings of Jesus Christ according to the HOLY BIBLE !!?

One of America’s pre-eminent evangelicals is challenging the advice of a retiring Roman Catholic Bishop in the Netherlands who has raised eyebrows worldwide by suggesting Dutch Christians pray to “Allah.”

Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr., president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, argues that it is inappropriate for Christians to call God Allah based on irreconcilable theological differences associated with the name Allah and core Christian beliefs.

The key condition behind calling the Christian God Allah is that Allah must refer to the same God as the one in the Bible. However, this requirement presents “a huge problem for both Muslims and Christians,” contends Mohler.

The theologian pointed out that the Qur’an explicitly denies that Allah has a son, and Islam considers the idea of a triune God to be blasphemy.

“Thus, from its very starting point Islam denies what Christianity takes as its central truth claim – the fact that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father,” wrote Mohler on his web blog Wednesday.

“If Allah has no Son by definition, Allah is not the God who revealed himself in the Son. How then can the use of Allah by Christians lead to anything but confusion …and worse?”

Last Monday, during an interview with a Dutch TV program, 71-year-old Bishop Tiny Muskens promoted the idea of Dutch Christians calling God Allah, believing that it would ease much of the conflict between the Christian and Muslim faiths. Muskens contended that God doesn’t mind what He is called and the arguments over what to call Him is an invention of man.

“Allah is a very beautiful word for God. Shouldn’t we all say that from now on we will name God Allah? …What does God care what we call Him? It is our problem,” said Muskens, according to The Associated Press.

The retiring bishop was a former missionary to Indonesia – the most populous Muslim country in the world – for eight years, where he said priests used the name “Allah” while celebrating Mass.

In response, Mohler pointed out that it would be difficult to support the argument that “Allah” can be used as a generic term for God. The theologian said separation of Allah from the language, theology, and worship closely associated with it is difficult. Moreover, even non-Arabic speaking Muslims use Allah when referring to their god.

Another irreconcilable difference is that Jesus commanded his followers to baptize “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

“When this command is taken seriously and obeyed, the whole issue is greatly clarified – a Christian cannot baptize in the name of Allah,” stated Mohler.

“So Bishop Muskens is disingenuous at best when he suggests that God does not care about His name. This is not a matter of mere ‘discussion and bickering,’” said Mohler.

“If Allah has no son, Allah is not the father of our Lord Jesus Christ…This is no mere ‘discussion and bickering.’ This is where the Gospel stands or falls,” the theologian concluded.

Bishop Muskens in the past endorsed other controversial ideas which went against the Vatican leadership – such as those who are hungry can steal bread and that condoms should be permissible in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

In the days leading to the decision of the case brought by the Titular Roman Catholic Archbishop applying to use the word Allah in the Malay version of the bible, the Muslim community sat muted whilst being schooled by the non Muslims on their own religion. At the helm of this muted movement were politicians including their ulamas, political alliances and Muslim intellectuals who all agreed that it is permissible for the use of the word Allah in the Catholic weekly Herald publication.

The first effect that we shall see from the decision of the Kuala Lumpur High Court dated 31.12.2009 allowing the Church to use the word Allah in their Malay language publication is the birth of Allah’s son. From now onwards, the Christian God in this new publication shall be referred to as “Allah” and Jesus Christ as “Anak Allah”.

The Muslim calendar, ie the Maal Hijrah for the year 1431 shall be well remembered by all Malaysians as the year where the trinity of Allah accompanied by “Anak Allah” shall be celebrated in the books of the Christians in the mother tongue of the largely Malay muslim populace and marked by the lunar eclipse event. In Surah Al Ikhlas, verse 1-4, Allah says ‘ Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; 2. Allah, the Eternal, Absolute. 3. He begets not, nor is he begotten; 4. And there is none like unto Him.

For the unlettered and unschooled in Islam, verse 3 simply means that Allah “does not give birth”, nor is “Allah given birth to”. It is incumbent for all Muslims, both lettered and unlettered, to uphold the sanctity of the concept of monotheism in Islam and never to allow Allah to be portrayed as having the attributes of a human being, the ability to beget a Son of which the echelons of the political community using Islam as their brand name in Malaysia have so easily facilitated and consented.

Those responsible for allowing this event to take place shall have to answer in their graves and in the hereafter for committing the greatest of all sins, “shirk” or polytheism of the highest degree. No argument can justify the usage of “Allah” and “Anak Allah” in any kitab here; yet those in a position to prevent this occurrence has shamelessly come to the defence of The weekly Herald to teach us how to pray to our ONE GOD.

What is the rationale for using the word “Allah” in the Christian books and how does this promote racial integration or even “One Malaysia”? If anything, this event draws the divide between the races even more. It is a deep shame that we have to live with for the rest of our lives, losing a battle that need not have been fought at all. It is not the fault of the Titular Roman Catholic Archbishop that we lost our pride and identity, we are our own doing. The pride of our community today fell due to treachery by those who fought and won political battles using the name of Islam. In the Quran, Allah warns us most of all against people who sell their religion. Allah says in the Quran, “..do not sell my religion for a paltry sum..”. In this case before us, the situation involved is even worse, they sold their religion for free.
